Looks are Deceiving

One of the amazing things over here is how things appear.  You see a very dirty building advertising a product and by the look of its outside you decide whether you will enter or not.

We have discovered some of the best surprises in the most unlikely looking places.  Much like life I guess, you miss out on some of the great surprises because you are put off by the outward appearance.

Following some great finds in the oddest of places we have noticed that our decision making process is slowly changing and we are now more likely to go into the small, unlit stores to discover what treasures lie hidden for us to discover.

The treasure we have most uncovered is the people who work in these places - making a living in a huge metropolis where there are at least five similar stores side by side. Some stand outside and try to drag you into their store, others beckon with descriptions of the unbelievable bargains that lie beyond the door and some just smile and indicate gently.

The decision is often very hard, and once inside you get smothered by people wanting to show you everything they have. Lynn likes to browse so to have people continually shoving things at you can be quite offputting when most times you just want to look and don't want to give them any extra work.

We have also discovered that they do not consider it an imposition to pull out twenty bolts of material for you to look at or fifteen pairs of shoes for you to try on. They have no problem packing them away and waiting for the next customer to repeat the same process, even if you buy nothing. This is vastly different to the attitude of a lot of traders back home.

The adventure to not let the look of something distract us continues.

The challenging side is when it comes to health. A few years ago Lynn and I walked down the path of breast cancer which necessitated much hospitalisation, surgery and reconstruction. It was not pleasant but taught us a lot about what is to be valued.

We laughed at our newly discovered freedom when earlier in our time here we encountered the following two places and wondered that if the situation presented itself again, would we be brave enough to avail ourselves of their services.

PS  Looks are deceiving so make your life decisions wisely

  1. Looks ARE deceiving! Look no further than Jesus; seeking out, finding time for the "dirty', the disfigured and the derelict. Through the likes of these, the Kingdom was surely revealed. Glad he saw beyond the 'deception'
